On October 9, ATR, the world’s leading regional aircraft manufacturer, confirmed that it has received board approval to launch the ATR 42-600S. The “S” stands for Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL), and this new version of the ATR 42-600 can carry 40 passengers on runways as short as 800 meters in standard flight conditions. This makes the ATR 42-600S the best performing aircraft in its class.
To date, ATR has secured 20 committed orders for the ATR 42-600S from operators and lessors, including launch lessor lix Aviation Capital and launch operator Air Tahiti announced at the 2019 Paris Air Show.
The ATR 42-600S thus becomes the latest addition to the ATR family of aircraft including the ATR 42-600, ATR 72-600 and the forthcoming ATR 72-600F cargo version. The ATR 42-600S is expected to be certified in the second half of 2022, with first deliveries expected shortly thereafter.
